Attention News Editors:
TORONTO, March 7 /CNW/ - Nurses at the Hospital for Sick Children say they were wrongly accused at the Lisa Shore Inquest and are fighting back. The Shores wish to make clear that the inquest jury came to its finding of homicide after carefully weighing all the evidence. This evidence included the sworn testimony of all four nurses in question. The nurses say they want to "clear their names". The family would like to know what information the nurses will give to the College that they did not testify to at the Coroner's inquest. The nurses were present throughout the inquest, participated fully in it and were ably represented by Borden & Elliot, a leading law firm. Though repeatedly invited to retain separate lawyers, they declined to do so. The Shores reported Nurses Doerksen, Soriano, Reeder and Douglas to the College of Nurses on Friday, March 3, 2000. They welcome the College investigation and its ability to impose appropriate disciplinary measures where warranted. -30-
